Questions to Ask If You’re Considering a Boat Trip to your Event

Arrive in Style!

We’ve asked Chicago Electric Boat Company (CEBC) what are the main questions to address when renting a boat for a special event. Here are some to consider that are specific for a boat or yacht transportation to your Event:

  • What is the type of event and what is your guest size?
The type and size of your party can determine the vessel you’ll need. For instance, if it’s a Wedding (like George & Amal Clooney), then you may want to forego the cycle or donut boats (which are perfect for engagement celebrations, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and corporate team building events) and opt for a motorboat with a cover or a statement making yacht! Also, you should know if any special accommodations are needed such as handicap access since some vessels have limited space with narrow corridors.
  • How many hours are included in the boat rental fee?
Determine if it’s a 1-way or a roundtrip. For Weddings, a 1-way trip is more likely from the Hotel or Ceremony to the Reception!
  • What is the cancellation policy if inclement weather?
Hopefully, it doesn’t rain on anyone’s parade but the usual requirement is a 72-hour advance notice for cancellations and can be rescheduled; however, if the original booking was for a weekend, that may not be available.
  • Are decorations permissible on the vessel, i.e. Wedding flowers along the railings?
Always a good idea to call ahead and let the boat company know, and more than likely are happy to assist in decorating the selected vessel.
  • Are children or pets allowed on board? (Flower Girls, Ring Bearers, furry pets)
People of all ages are welcome onboard; those under the age of 13 are required to wear a life vest (usually provided prior to boarding your boat). Pets usually allowed onboard some vessels, like the 22’ Duffies by adding the pet option to your voyage ($26). Our Pathfinder is strictly pet-free.
  • Can we host our rehearsal dinner aboard the boat?
YES! For instance, we offer a private chef option upon request at an additional fee and must be notified by request 10 days prior to the event. Guests are also welcome to bring their own food onboard. (The 22’ Duffy is BYOB as well, while the Pathfinder has a full bar and cocktail menu.)
  • Is there heating and/or air conditioning on the vessel?
Pathfinder has heating and cooling while the Duffy boat relies more on it’s canopy for shade and the breeze for air conditioning.
  • Are ample life preservers on board?
There are ample life preservers for everyone.
  • If we have a CAPTAIN/CREW, Is the gratuity included?
Gratuity is not included, but is greatly appreciated.
  • Any Docking Fees or other charges
Docking fees need not apply at any of our docking locations; fees may apply at a dock location not associated with CEBC. There is a 9% Chicago Amusement Tax, and a security deposit hold. For the Duffy boat a $500 deposit will be held on the credit card on file; for Pathfinder, the hold will be for $1,000.
